CONSUMER iNFORMATION

In compliance with California Assembly Bill 1278 (AB 1278) physicians practicing in the state of California must provide patients with notice of the federal Open Payments program, also known as the Sunshine Act. The Sunshine Act requires manufacturers of certain drugs, devices, biologicals, and medical supplies that are reimbursable by Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program to report payments and other transfers of value they make to “covered recipients,” unless an exception applies. Covered recipients include physicians, teaching hospitals, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and certain other healthcare providers. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publishes this data in a publicly available online database, known as the Open Payments database.

The Open Payments database is a federal tool used to search payments made by drug and device companies to physicians and teaching hospitals. It can be found at

For informational purposes only, a link to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Open Payments web page is provided here. The federal Physician Payments Sunshine Act requires that detailed information about payment and other payments of value worth over ten dollars ($10) from manufacturers of drugs, medical devices, and biologics to physicians and teaching hospitals be made available to the public.
